Cynthia Cox is a 2nd grade bilingual teacher in the Cajon Valley School District. She was born and raised in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and moved to the states when she was 10 years old. Her love of Mexican culture and language lead her to a career in teaching Spanish and English. Several years later, after nearly a 20 year hiatus from Mexican folkloric dancing, she joined a ballet folklorico troupe. She also took her new teachings into the classroom and started a dance group for the school. After two years of dancing with the troupe she once again took a break to complete her master's degree in education at UCSD. Almost immediately upon graduating she joined Viviana A. Enrique Ballet Folklorico en Aztlan. The group has afforded her opportunities and experiences to dance in diverse locations and meet many people. She considers herself very fortunate to have the privilege of dancing with this group and sharing time and space with this amazing group of dancers and directors.

This year she serves as “Queen” for the House of Mexico and her duties include training the younger girls about Mexican culture and continuing to offer visitors and tourist information about House of Mexico and the Mexican culture. She has been dancing since she was 15 and is proud to be a member of BFA.
